Unified Changwon City Launched in Ceremony
Changwon celebrated its merger with Masan and Jinhae, becoming a city of 1.08 million people. The ceremony at Seongsan Arts Hall was attended by over 1,500 residents and officials including Prime Minster Chung Un-chan and Changwon Mayor Park Wan-su.
In a congratulatory message Chung stressed the importance of regional development, pledging to "support Changwon's efforts to grow further".
Chung also praised the merger of the three cities, pointing out that Changwon's economy has become the largest among smaller local administrative units nationwide."This is the first time a merger of cities has been made by the citizens themselves," Chung said. "This event will help the southern coastal area become a major economic force in the country."
"Not only will we preserve our ancestors' traditions, but we will also turn Changwon into a world-class city envied by people around the world, one that our children will be proud to live in," he said in an inauguration speech.

Free Shuttle Bus Services for International Visitors to Korea
Seoul-Gyeongju and Seoul-Jeonju free shuttle bus services for international tourists to Korea began on June 1st . This initiative was made by the Visit Korea Year Committee in an effort to promote the local tourism industry by attracting more foreign visitors away from the capital city area, where the country has the high concentration of international tourists.
The shuttle buses run six times a week except Mondays from June to December, and the same service also will be available between Busan and Gyeongju starting July 1st . The buses circulate between the Gwanghwamun (Seoul) and the Concord Hotel (Gyeongju), the Gwanghwamun (Seoul) and the Rivera Hotel (Jeonju), and the Concord Hotel (Gyeongju) and the Lotte Hotel(Busan) and the Paradise Hotel(Busan). Internet, DVD, earphones, etc., are provided to ensure a comfortable travel for passengers; leaflets, tourist maps, and souvenir are offered as well. English and Japanese speaking tour guides also are available to provide historical and cultural information of the destinations. The service is open to all international tourists and foreign residents in Korea; however, you must register in advance at the official web site of the Visit Korea Year Committee

Mr. Hur Re-elected for Third Term
Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik has been elected to serve a third term of four years. The mayor participated in a simple inauguration event on July 1st at City Hall and then held a press conference with reporters. He then got right to work by visiting child care centers and organizations focused on creating jobs in the area.
In his inauguration speech, Hur unveiled the slogan for his next four-year term: ”°Large and Strong Busan.”±
His plan involves helping Busan rise to the ranks of the worldӮs premiere metropolitan areas and become more competitive with global cities in terms of business, the economy, tourism and quality of life.
